About Jess
Jess is a British Fine Artist specialising in equestrian portraiture and landscape painting in oils. Following the line from Stubbs to Munnings she combines the techniques of the Old Masters with influences from impressionism to create exquisite paintings of horses which will last for generations.
With an upbringing in the heart of the racing world, Lambourn’s ‘Valley of the Racehorse,’ she has painted horses from a young age and holds a degree in Fine Art and Art History. Her lifelong love of horses and the English landscape is at the centre of her work.
Based near Hungerford in Berkshire, Jess specialises in painting horses and their riders in the landscapes they call home. She is passionate about capturing the unique connection between horse, rider and place, creating evocative, personal works designed to tell a story that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
Each commission is about embarking on a journey to capture the spirit of her subjects and she travels all across the UK to ensure this, sketching and taking photographs from life and forming the composition in situ. She then takes all of this home to inform the painting which is made in her studio.
Jess works primarily on private commissions, with notable patrons listed below and paintings residing in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia and Hong Kong. She occasionally exhibits to showcase a particular series of work.
As seen in House and Garden, Country Life and the Field.
