I specialise in oil paintings of horses in landscapes, creating paintings with character and flair that tell a story.

The process starts with a chat about what you have in mind. Multiple horses, riders, additional figures, dogs, houses, grandstands, crowds and so on can all be included.

My preferred method is to come to you to compose the entire scene in situ - this usually takes around one to two hours. I will make sketches and take photographs to inform the painting back in the studio. I can also visit events to capture moments in time or work from your photos provided they are detailed enough.

Once the painting plan has been agreed I will ask for a 50% deposit to book your commission into the diary. We will then book a day for me to come and visit your horse and to finalise the reference photos and composition for the painting.

I will start your commission at the agreed time and once the painting is finished I will invite you to visit the studio to view the painting. At this stage we can discuss any tweaks or adjustments you would like. We will repeat this process until you are completely happy with your painting.

The balance payment is due upon completion of the painting. After this has been received we will discuss framing and delivery requirements and these will be invoiced for separately if required.

I offer a varnishing service one year after your painting has been finished. Just give me a call when the time comes to get this booked into the diary.

I know from a lifetime with horses how special the bond between you and your horse can be and how cherished are the memories you make with them. My aim is to capture the personality and character of the horses I paint so that you end up with a piece of art that tells their story and will bring you and your family joy for years to come.

EQUINE COMMISSION PRICE LIST

Please find my price list below. Each portrait can be tailored to your requirements.

Prices are for a single horse on a landscape background.

  • 20 x 25 ins: £4,600

  • 24 x 30 ins: £6,500

  • 28 x 35 ins: £8,700

Additional people and animals are 10% of the portrait price.

For a neutral background the portrait will be less 10% of the portrait price.

If it is agreed that the background will be more complex, for example including a house or racecourse building, an additional 15% of the portrait price will be added.

Travel: Motor expenses (45p per mile), plus parking and toll charges, if applicable.

Outside of UK: Travel expenses, plus accommodation (unless provided).

Deposit: A 50% deposit is required to confirm your commission and book space in the diary.

Extras: Framing and delivery are quoted and invoiced for separately.
