Jessica Hills
Jess is a British oil painter specialising in equestrian portraiture and landscape painting. Following the line from Stubbs to Munnings she combines the techniques of the Old Masters with an impressionistic flair to create timeless pieces which will last for generations.
With an upbringing in the heart of the racing world, Lambourn’s ‘Valley of the Racehorse,’ she has painted horses from a young age and holds a degree in Fine Art and Art History. Her lifelong love of horses and the English landscape is at the centre of her work.
Based on the Berkshire/Hampshire border, Jess specialises in painting horses and their riders in the landscapes they call home. She is passionate about capturing the unique connection between horse, rider and place, creating evocative, personal works designed to tell a story that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
Each commission is about embarking on a journey to capture the spirit of her subjects and she travels all across the UK to ensure this, sketching and taking photographs and forming the composition on paper. She then takes all of this home to inform the painting which is made in her studio.
Jess works mostly on private commissions, with patrons including the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort and The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. She occasionally exhibits to showcase a particular series of work.
Every painting sold supports Andover Trees’ Harmony Woods project, helping children connect with nature.
