I specialise in equine portraits, with a particular focus on horses in landscapes. The commission process begins with a chat about what you would like and can take as long or as little time as you like.

Ideally I will come and take photographs of the subject or subjects. This will usually take around an hour. If time allows I will also sketch them against the desired landscape or backdrop to help me form a composition (up to another hour). If that’s not possible I may be able to work from your photos provided they are detailed enough.

Once the painting plan has been agreed I will ask for a 25% deposit to book your commission into the diary. I am currently open for new commissions from April 2026.

I will start your commission at the agreed time and once the painting is finished I will invite you to visit the studio to view the painting. At this stage we can discuss any tweaks or adjustments you would like. We will repeat this process until you are completely happy with your painting.

Once the painting is finished I will ask for the balance. After this has been received we will discuss framing and delivery requirements and these will be invoiced for separately if required. I can give you examples of the frames I generally use or recommend local framers if you would prefer to look at specific mouldings.

I am delighted to let you know that I now offer a free varnishing service one year after your painting has been finished. I will travel to you to do this if you live within two hour’s drive of my studio or, if you are further afield, then at a cost of the additional travel expenses. Just give me a call to get this booked into the diary.

Whether you are looking to celebrate a beloved family pony surrounded by children and dogs or a more formal portrait of a hunter, event or racehorse I would be delighted to hear from you and discuss your vision. I look forward to bringing your painting to life and helping you preserve the moment you want to celebrate for many years to come.
